The Spring Season is Underway and Stretching

Our spring season has begun!  We had a great turnout on Tuesday night at our first running meet-ups at the season.  Between the groups at Joyner Park in Wake Forest and Main Street Park in Rolesville, we had over 30 participants!  What a blessing that was to see so many participate.

It is not too late to join us.  Our next scheduled meet-up is this coming Saturday morning (April 14) at 8:00 am.  We will be meeting at Main Street Park in Rolesville.

Please refer to our calendar for the meetup locations throughout the training.  Of course, we realize everyone’s schedule will not accommodate these meetups, but if you are able to attend we look forward to seeing you there.

After last night’s workout, you may be feeling a little sore.  That is to be expected if you have just started to workout.  I would like to encourage you to stretch, which will assist in working out the soreness.   Instead of focusing on the traditional stretching you may be familiar with, we’d like to introduce you to dynamic stretching.  Dynamic stretching is a way to increase your heart rate and warm you body up properly before you workout or in this case, to assist with any soreness post-workout.  You will see that you do not stay in a stretched position for an extended period of time.  You simply perform the stretches as you are moving.  We’ll incorporate dynamic stretching into our running meetups, but to get you familiar with them, watch this brief video from Coach Chick as he demonstrates the elements of dynamic stretching.

If you have any questions about the training schedule or the meetups, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can reach me via e-mail at chick@thesecondwind.net.
