What is Truth?

The spring season for The Second Wind is well underway– congrats on making it through the workouts last week!  As we learned in last week’s devotional blog post, the only thing that is true in this world is the Word of God.  Having God in our hearts allows us to listen to His truth every day!  In Philippians 4:8 (our key verse for the current season) Paul provides us with practical advice for us to live by today.  It is understandable that our thoughts are drawn to all the bad things in our lives and the world: terrorism, persecution, job loss, pain, death, etc.).  In fact, we can become so engrossed in all of the bad we see in the world that it could leave us us thinking we have no hope.  But hope is exactly what we have– hope in the Word of God!  Paul reminds us that no matter how bad things might seem, there is more: both here and in heaven.

I want to encourage you to take some time today and examine your life.  Are you living according to God’s Word (his eternal truth)?  Are you finding areas where you are out of step with His Word?  If so, I want to offer you the same hope that Paul offers us in this season’s key verse: that by turning toward Jesus, focusing our everything on him and truly living for him, you will find comfort and strength in our Lord and Savior!  As Jesus, himself, said in John 8:31-32 ”If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

As you move through the week and as you complete the workouts (reminder: check our calendar to see when this week’s meetups are scheduled for!), grab a hold of this truth and remind yourself of the promise that the truth found in God’s Word is powerful and is ultimately what will set you free from the pain of this world!

Have a great week and, as always, if you have any questions about this devotion, the training schedule or the meetups, drop me an e-mail at chick@thesecondwind.net.  I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening!
