Reflections of a Friend
July 4 was a day to celebrate Independence Day. July 4 was also the day that I received some terrible news about the death of my friend Steve Jordan. Steve was struck from behind while he was riding his bike. Steve was not just a friend, he was a mentor to me when it came to cycling. He got me started in the sport. Steve went with me to pick out a road bike, provided me some gear to get started and spent hours on the roads with me teaching me about the sport of cycling. In a nutshell, he taught me everything that I know about...

We always hear stories about people helping other people when they are in need. Well, I recently heard of a story from a friend of mine who lives in Hawaii that exemplifies helping someone in need. Each December, my friend Jeff, runs in the Honolulu Marathon. He trains and prepares for these 26.2 miles for weeks leading up to the race and this year’s event was no different. Jeff is an avid runner and competes in several races each year. I met Jeff a few years ago when I ran in the Disney World Half Marathon in 2009. Hearing about...

This past Sunday at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, we had the opportunity to have Dr. Danny Akin, the president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary deliver the message. Dr. Akin’s sermon was titled “Let’s Run in God’s Race” coming from Hebrews 12:1-3. Dr. Akin shared throughout the sermon the life of Eric Liddell. Many of you may not be familiar with the name Eric Liddell. He was a runner and won the 400 meters at the 1924 Olympic Games. His life through running and religion are depicted in...

Since I have returned from a mission trip to Romania, God has provided multiple opportunities to share about the experience. I have shared with family, friends, co-workers and during both church services last Sunday at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Today, God provided another opportunity to share about the trip. This time it was with my oldest daughter’s 2nd grade class at North Raleigh Christian Academy. On the day I left on the mission trip, I took my daughter to school. During the morning when her teacher, Mrs. Worley, asked...

If you were to ask me 3 years ago to go on an international mission trip, I would have told you no without any hesitation. Amazing the plans God has in store for us as I cannot say no anymore. I will not forget the day when Pastor Randy Mann from Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church approached me about going on an international mission trip to Romania. You see, my wife and I had been trying to plan a vacation and nothing was working out for that to happen. This showed me that God has different plans and he wanted me to go to Romania to serve. I...

For a while now I have wanted to get involved in a running ministry. Just as Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19, I wanted to be able to do something that I love to do in order to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. In talking with my wife and my good friend Jon, we decided to start a multi-sport ministry with the goal to reach not just runners, but also walkers, cyclists, swimmers, and triathletes. Rewind back to April 9 of this year. This was the date that both Jon and I became triathletes by finishing the Granite Falls...

How many times do you find yourself trying to fix things on your own? I know that I am one who fits into this category. Many times we feel that we have to fix a problem and we have to fix it immediately. In those cases we literally tell Jesus to take a step back because of the “I can handle this” mentality. We tell Jesus we will get back to him when things get better or when we need Him. Isaiah 40:31 “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not...

Reflections on our spiritual workout as given to us by the apostle Paul. Acts 20: 19-24 19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents. 20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. 21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. 22 “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not...
